suggestions for DIY'ing a couple crawspace covers/vents for my new house

here's the crawlspace
LINK
I have one that's 2x3' and two of them that are 2x2'
thinking about just doing a box frame with some nice-looking mesh/wire/expanded metal for ventilation. just two questions:
1: what kind of wood does the board think I should use? I live in souf louisiana so obvious moisture/termites are the big issues
2: how to attach? I don't mind making penetrations in the exterior brick, but I'd prefer not to
TIA

Personally, I'd inset to the backside of the brick veneer. If you build a wood box you'll want to anchor to the footing and underside of your floor joist/ sill plate. That brick veneer wouldn't be ideal for securing to I don't think.

I'd just use treated lumber and paint it. Just be sure to let it dry out a few months before you paint it.

Would need pics to see what you are working with... but probably hinges or maybe some bolts that run through the frame and wing nuts.

I did something similar years ago using treated lumber and lattice. I built a frame for the lattice to dress it up using 1x4's. I screwed some hooks on the frames and had hooks coming down from the floor sill so it would hang kinda loose. This allowed me to remove it easily to access the crawl space. It also allowed me to leave about an inch b/t the frame and footing. Even treated lumber will rot over time especially if it is touching the ground/footing.

I wouldnt screw it to that brick vener for sure. I'd frame the hole with 2x6s / 2x4s. Then attach your hinges and latch to those.
You could screw a 2x6 across the bottom into the foundation concrete. Then screw in one to the board at the top. Then just screw your vertical ones to the top and bottom boards.
Something like this.

Looks pretty good, I think I'm going to go for something like that. thanks

No problem. That's a pretty common way of doing it.

I would leave plenty of airflow and not close it off...

yeah the plan is to use some kind of mesh or grating as the backing material for it

He said he is doing mesh.
My home inspector recommended doing the same for in the summer. Then doing a solid one for the cold months. Swap it out in may and september.
