Storing portable air conditioner

Those that have them, how are you storing your portable air conditioners? Does anyone keep them in the attic? I am not talking about window units, see picture below:

I have a closet in my garage under stairwell where it stays when not in use

Probably not the best but i have mine double bagged in black contractor garbage bags and put in the shed. I check it occasionally to ensure not rats and shyt chew thru or got into the bag.
The times I've pulled it out to use (storm) or loan to someone, it worked fine.

Stuck mine in an upstairs closet for five years. Worked every time I pulled it out right up until all the freon (or whatever they use these days) leaked out. Tried to get it recharged and was advised to just buy a new one.
