Since it StG is now its own city, do I still need to get Baton Rouge approval of plans with stamps, etc? Built a carport addition a few years back and it was hell to try to get approved. Can’t remember if it was city or parish approval.

If you didn’t live in the city, why would you need the city approval?

They said in the future those types of permits would be through St George. I’m guessing you’d still do it the old way in this transition phase.

Maybe it'll be like Central where they privatized the permitting process and the prices for it were 3x more expensive than it was when it was EBR doing it.

Central used to send people through neighborhoods to see if anyone was building sheds, carports, porches, or anything so they could show up and slap a fine on them. Allegedly an airplane was used at one point. The new contractor and regime they have now seems much more reasonable about it though.

challenged by Jr. Shelton, whose major issue was high permit fees charged by CH2MHill in the name of the City of Central. The company received 90 percent of the fees, which tripled in Central after incorporation

Residents and developers began complaining that permit fees charged by CH2M Hill were too high and not in line with comparably sized communities. Nor could permits be obtained online.

Well if you live in St George now, then that means you didn’t live in the City of Baton Rouge before which means you were dealing with EBR parish permitting. So you will still have to get permits through EBR parish just as before. You still live in the parish.
