Had a Snapper Hi Vac years ago when I had a few lawns. I love them. I know it's an old design but it works. Is there a better mower that is self propelled to have these days with a better design that pulls as hard? I could never cut with it in the 6th speed. 4th gear was plenty maybe 5 sometimes

Anyway, I bought the lot next door and it's not quite big enough to warrant a rider by my junk MTD push mower isn't enough to make the job easy. Was thinking about buying another Snapper Hi Vac. What other options should I consider these days and why... or should I just go back to the Hi Vac?

Honda has surpassed the Snapper Hi Vac in the opinion of many.

I've owned 2 or 3 Snapper self propelled and now have a Honda self propelled. While the Snappers are good machines, there seemed to always be some small part that needed to be replaced. So far the Honda has exceeded the Snappers in every way except the Honda has some resistance when pulling it backwards and may be a little heavier. After a bad experience with the basic Honda self propelled, Honda upgraded me to the HRX with the hardened plastic deck and a 5 year warranty. It has been trouble free now for 3 years. I would recommend paying more and get one like this.

I’ve got a Snapper commercial hi vac. Ive looked at toros and Honda And considered buying the Toro. the drive design on the snapper cannot be surpassed imo. It’s simple and effective. The Toro homowner version has a chinchy push bar to control ground speed, the Honda has some thumb bar that looks chinchy as well and looks like it would wear my wrists the fk out.

My Snapper has the Kawasaki FJ180V engine and that bitch will eat.

I just went from a Snapper to the Honda HRX. Here are my thoughts:

-Snapper has a better self propel system
-Honda is harder to pull in reverse
-Honda Versamow is superior to the Snapper, unless you want side discharge
-Honda has a larger fuel tank which is very convenient
-Honda deck has a lifetime warranty, my Snapper deck rusted through
-The Snapper mulched faster but left larger clippings than the Honda. It left a cleaner, more even cut than the Honda at faster speeds
-Honda mulches slower and leaves finer clippings. If I go too fast there are random blades of grass left behind. This pisses me off! I maintained lawns as a teenager and used to run behind a Snapper and it would leave a clean cut. Honda, not so much.
-Honda 200cc engine is stronger than the B&S 190cc I had on the Snapper. No choking in thick wet grass.

I used to get Hand me down Toros over the years. I was never impressed with them and did not like the design. The only one I would want to have would be the old Toro commercial mowers with the 2 stroke Suzuki engine. That thing was a beast

The bane of my existence as a young commercial mower many, many years ago was a snapper 7 hp (as I recall) push mower. It was an absolute beast. I dreamed of being assigned one of the little two stroke lawn-boys in the fleet. It was one tough mower, but boy when the bag got halfway full it was a bitch to push.
