Smart Thermostat

Cross posting this here since tech board seems fairly dead.
So, we have had ecobees in both units. With the upstairs unit it has been a nightmare. We have older AC units (AC with gas furnace, single stage, installed in 2003), that have no C -wire. Not a big deal, was able to install the Ecobee with the pex adaptor.
Problems arose when it got really cold. Fan would kick on but furnace wouldn't. Reddit had a thread about it, and I changed the settings to have the furnace control everything, and set the compressor temp down to 0. It fixed. Intermittantly this problem would reoccur, and would have to go through set up again. There are multiple threads out there about it. Last night it happened again. Couldn't get it to reset so I feared heater might be shot. So I ripped out ecobee and put the old trane thermostat back in. Voila! it works again.
So question: is there a smart thermostat that does not require c-wire, is wifi capable and controllable by my phone?

The basic sensei model doesn’t require a c wire I don’t believe. I have one and it’s been pretty solid.

Yes, Sensi doesn't require a c-wire, has wifi, and you can change all settings with your phone.
