Sizing mini splits - hvac

I’m getting conflicting info from interwebs. Some say 9K BTU is enough to cover 250-350 sq feet while others say that needs to be 12K BTU. I found a 12k mini split advertised for 550 sqft.
My space is a shop that would be occupied often, and don’t want to oversized it and have a humid cool area.
TIA

I did a mini-split in my 1200 SF shop but it was super insulated (r19 walls, r36 ceiling, r19 garage door) and a 12k mitsubishi with hyper-heat is perfect.

The proper way to determine this is to do a heat load calculation for your shop, referred to as a Manual J. You can use this free program LoadCalc LINK, plug in numbers that apply to your shop and it will provide the BTUs for cooling and heating for design conditions.

Similar sized shop (1250 ft^2) but with R-15 and R-30 and have an 18k BTU LG minisplit and if anything it is a bit oversized.

I have a 12k on a 500SF patio that is half windows. Works fine. I would think you could go smaller.

I think that’s what I’m leaning towards.
