I’m planning to use the Schluter Kerdi shower system in our master bath remodel. We are putting in a 55”x40” corner shower, with two pieces of glass to make the L shape.

I’d like to use their corner bench in the corner where the wall and glass meet, but it seems like all applications of the corner bench is a wall-to-wall corner. Since the back of the bench on the glass side would be exposed, I’m trying to figure out the best way to close it out and tile it.

Any suggestions from you pros out there? My initial plan is to get a piece of cement or Kerdi board and attach it to the back of the exposed side of bench. After tile, we’d run the curb up to it and sit the glass on top of the bench and down to the curb kind of like this bench, but obviously only one side coming off the wall instead of both shown here.

I’m impressed by the support schluter gives. You can select all the products you’re installing and make a custom video playlist for each step. Feeling pretty good about it..except for this issue

My wife says she’s going to do it. I feel like that’s a kid promising they’ll feed the puppy if you just get them one..

No sage advice, eh? It’s looking like I might have lots of free time to tackle this in the coming weeks!

Pony wall with glass on top? Would also give you a little area to act as a shelf above the seat.

So instead of having a rectangular bench with 1 sides against the wall and 1 against the glass, you are basically saying you have a triangle shaped bench with the side along the glass?

Yeah I mean the glass will need to sit on top of the bench right?

You basically frame everything out, then use your waterproofing membrane on top, then tile, then place glass on top. Just make sure you add extra support to be able to sit on the bench.

Eta: as a diy I’ll tell you it’s a hell of a lot easier to spend money on prefabbed materials or Keep it simple. Don’t try and DIY a harder bench then is necessary. Either do a simple bench or no bench, a hard bench is the type of stuff where things go wrong fast.

You're wanting to do something like this?

Don't do that. You'll end up with a notched panel of glass going in to an angled seat wall. The glass cannot be mitered within a notch cutout to match the angle of your seatwall. You'll end up with a really ugly vertical joint between the glass and the seat. You're better off building that corer seat into a knee wall that runs along the entire return. It's more framing and tile work, but it'll look so much better.

Why not put it in the wall/wall corner?

Yes exactly. Hadn’t considered the joint issue between the glass angle and the angle of the bench, that’s a great point.

For those asking why not install a knee wall .. it’s because the wife says she doesn’t like the look and I’m just her pawn. But what she’s trying to do here may not make sense.

Based on the advice received here, I decided to go with a small “pony wall” to close out the back of the bench.

New question for you experts - I want to use the shower floor tile on the curb, but the top of the curb is wider than my tile. Will it affect the glass installation if I have a grout line down the middle of the curb? My original plan was to use the bathroom floor tile which is the same color, but much longer. But I’m having problem with that tile chipping when I try to cut it. I guess I could also use the same schluter aluminum trim piece I used on the bench and the insert, I’ve just not seen that used on a curb before.
