Just had 5 loads of dirt delivered and spread around my house to build up low spots and get better drainage. Should i let the grass grow back naturally or spread some grass seed or something else to help it grow back quick and thick.

At this time of the year? No.

I’d try to get something growing to prevent erosion.

It's late for seeding lawn grasses. If you would rather not suffer through a mud yard, it's not too late to sow clover. Crimson clover does well as long as it germinates before 1st frost...maybe 3 weeks away.
Left un-mowed you'll get a lovely red bloom when it warms in April. The clover will die when it gets hot.
After bloom, till it in for a nitrogen boost and seed for grass.
Good luck.

i used rye to hold it in place and try to keep weeds out once when trying to re-establish a yard... i cut it a few times (i think??? yard guy dud stuff) and it died off in spring..
rye does look nice in winter also

I’d do rye if you’re concerned about erosion. Don’t do a warm season grass now

So would you not do sod right now? It wouldn't live?

I'd do some rye grass for sure since it is around the house, especially if you don't have gutters. You'd be amazed how quick that dirt can be washed away from rain falling off the roof. Even if you have gutters, you'll have a lot wash off around the downspouts.

Sod I would do now. It only takes a couple weeks to get rooted. I doubt South Louisiana is going to have a hard freeze in the next few weeks.

So if it was more like December-ish, would you still recommend sodding? This is a thread hi-jack, but just curious on your thoughts as I have a buddy that is considering doing seed vs. sod, but won't be ready to do it until first week or two of December more than likely.
Thanks!

At that point I'd wait until March to sod.
