They seem to be quieter from my experience. We have had one for 10 years and he's super laid back. He will bark at squirrels and other dogs, but that's about it. They are sturdy little dogs.

That's good. My Shih Tzu was somewhat delicate. Although we had her for 10 years. I like that the Lhasa has excellent hearing. Our Shih Tzu was amazing. The moment a stranger stepped on my front lawn (yes my lawn) she was barking at the front door. Very loyal and very protective of her family.
That's important to me.
