Need to get some ryegrass seed down as soon as I can. Located on the Northshore and it looks like next week we’ll have highs around 80 and lows around 60. Will this work for germination or still too early? TIA

This week or next? Looks like a couple of days in the upper 80’s between now and Monday.

for best germination, you might wait another week.

Think soil temps need to be about 70 and if outside temps are 80, soil temp can get a bit higher.

Before a rain is best too obviously.

Or set up sprinkler for 15 minutes.

Should see grass in 5 to 7 days

I think I'm going to largely abandon the project this fall.
I might seed a small patch.

It's so dry that I'd have to pre soak the dirt just to till it up a bit.
And no rain in site.
I just don't have time for it.

No tilling necessary if you use annual rye I can assure you that. Shite grows anywhere. I’m not sure about PRG.

I would never use that lime green slime

anyone else putting rye grass down in South LA?
The ground is hard as hell. You'd probably need to water the yard for a few days before putting the seed down.
Feels like the amount of time you'd need to devote to watering considering the lack of rain we've had and will continue to have will make this difficult.
I had never done it before and wanted to give it a try this year.

Ryegrass literally grows on concrete

If you're worried about it just drag a rake around to create any sort of loose sediment then seed and water.

ETA:

One year, the bag of seed spilled in my truck bed a bit and it rained a couple times and I had a grass growing back there. It's like chia pet seeds.

Looks like we may be moving soon. I may seed near the road for some true curb appeal.

It appears that the next house will have Centipede.
Has anyone ever successfully overseed Centipede with PRG, or is it not recommended at all?

I would spray it out on 1 March to be safe.

well that's good to know. Thanks!
Never planted it before so I know nothing about it.
