Surfed around the internet and there are a million different soft wash mixes and methods for getting the streaks and whatnot off of a shingle roof. From everything I gathered, I am looking at doing a mix of 1/3 12.5% sodium hypochlorite (pool shock) and 2/3 water with some dawn soap mixed in it. Spray from the peak to the bottom with the solution and let it sit for 10-15 minutes then wash it with a hose.

Anyone have any input on that or have their own successful DIY roof cleaning method?

I got my whole house done and roof before I sold it. I know they say it doesn’t damage roof but I felt like it did. I would have to get on roof to clean out gutters during fall months. It just looked like it ate away at the material that a shingle consists of

Heres what I did based on previous posts here:
Mixed the following into a big 96 quart trash can
-9 jugs of the pool shock from Lowes
-one big (gallon?) container of dawn
-half of a 1lb box of TSP
Stirred it up with a broom handle; used a sup pump with a garden hose attached to spray the mixture on the roof. Looked like dark roast community coffee rolling off the roof.

I'd go with the regular 6%-8% you can find in stores if you're doing this yourself as it works just as good but you may want to do a 50-50 ratio of it and water. You don't absolutely need the 12.5% stuff. Plus, that stuff is very, very strong and can easily burn you if you're not paying full attention. Also, if you do this yourself, you better damn well hope you can recruit a couple others to continuously spray down plants, grass, and anything else around your house that you don't want bleached/killed.

I tried doing this as a business years ago and had to give it up because it was just too hard to do alone and I couldn't afford to hire help at the time.

Either do it yourself with a couple others to spray everything down the entire time or pay a crew to do it for you.

The results on the roof, though, are dramatic and you won't be disappointed.

So you just used a 50/50 mix of regular bleach and water and sprayed it on the house, let it sit for a few minutes then washed it off?

Side note: I am relandscaping my entire yard so right now everything is completely ripped out down to the soil which is why I want to do it right now.

Yes and add some dawn to it but not anti bacterial dawn. You may need to touch some areas a second time but the dangers of chemical burns is lower.

Google Home Depot and Lowe's. They have several products ready to go. You just attach to a hose and it shoots high enough for most roofs. It takes several weeks to clear the mold but it does work and is less rough on your shingles.

Ive used one of those on my previous home and those products do a half arse job. I attempted the pool shock + water + soap method yesterday on a portion of roof but I think it was too sunny/hot out and dried it to quicklyy. It came out very splotchy and I feel like I ddint get muhc use out of 1 gallon of shock. Not sure where to go from here.

A jug of bleach is cheaper and mixes easier.

Did the same area of roof yesterday while it was cloudy and went from the bottom up and the roof looks brand new. I think it just needs two applications tbh and the sun didn't help the first time. Thanks.
