$300 walk behind is just a memory by now. You’re looking at $500+ nowadays.
Toro and Echo have some good models to choose from. Get a Briggs motor if you can. Honda quit making mowers and those small engines too I believe.

I recommend this Craftsman from Lowes. I have the older model and it's never caused me any problems. And I'm not one to be fastidious about maintenance or anything.

I usually just look for the cheapest mower I can find that has a Briggs and Stratton engine.

Get the good-motor mower and keep out of the weather.....and change the oil and blades regularly, and drain the gas in the winter...
She will last for a long time, and sounds like you have done just that.
