So much crape myrtle discrimination around here.

They deserve all they get. The only worse tree is a Bradford Pear.

Red Maple. It saved me from getting an awning. It grew so fast and so shading that it covers the area of my BBQ pit during summer heat.

River birch grow pretty fast

Pines brow pretty fast

Red oak grow pretty fast

But if you want it really quick and it doesn’t need to be too tall or wide, Chinese Tallow. It also has some good fall color. But it can become invasive if not controlled.

Fastest growing tree in the world is a Royal Empress. It is invasive. But it has pretty flowers and big leaves. I like mine.

Red maples have a pretty canopy right? Can get to about 40 or 50 feet wide?

A home have any recommendations for similar to what’s been discussed but that grows more upwards and doesn’t have a wide canopy?

A quick search tells me it's very, very invasive.

Why tell people to plant this?

Was curious because I wouldn't mind something like this to replace the tree I lost to termites in the middle of my yard
How far to plant maple trees

quote:

Plant red maple trees at least 30 feet from your house. Red maple tree roots spread out further than Japanese maples, while also growing twice in size. Following the proper red maple planting distance from your house, these trees can provide great shade in large yards.

It was 4 feet tall when I planted it. My goal was for it to eventually shade my concrete BBQ square and adjoining wooden patio deck. I planted it 15 feet away.

It grew quickly and I noticed reduced hours of sunlight on my area within 3 or 4 years. Today my BBQ area only gets direct sun 2 hours a day (noon-2pm).

The only adjustment I made was to cut the above ground roots heading toward the cement. It took about 1/2 an hour and did not effect the tree since plenty of roots continued out to the open yard.
