I don't think you are going to find a countertop one that will make enough for a large gathering.
Most of the storage for them isnt' very much, usually a pound of ice, and the ice is always melting that's in the storage bin. If the bin is full, 3-4 people will use all of the ice in it easily, and it'll take probably 45-60 minutes to fill it back up.
It's irritating that there isn't much of an inbetween option from a $100-200 countertop ice maker that doesn't keep ice frozen long term, and a built in ice maker that cost over $1,000 and much more if you want anything other than the shitty square pieces of ice.
I don't understand why they can't make a bullit or nugget ice maker that can hold just about 3-5 lbs of ice, but be able to keep it frozen so you always have ice available. Just something slightly bigger than the normal countertop ones and has a dedicated water line.
The best one out there looks like the GE Opal Nugget ice maker. It holds 3lbs of ice, and makes a pound an hour, although it doesn't keep the ice from melting, but that's a decent capacity.

Very interesting. Glad that all got worked out, seems like a good solution with some peace of mind.

Yea, I was not familiar with that process but everyone I talked to swore that it was the end all type of repair. I think they were planning on removing my cage and replacing the outside footing but I was afraid they were going to damage my cage taking it down and putting it back up.
Apparently this was a more expensive and permanent solution. I did some research and almost every thing close to the beach (Pools, garages, houses, condos, etc) get these from the beginning

Something to keep in mind is those countertop units are really meant for indoors and their ability is going to be based on 70ish degree temperature. If you have it outside in the summer and it’s 80+ degrees I don’t know but I’m guessing they will slow down production quite a bit.

yea, I had that thought yesterday. Im really not looking for this thing to be spectacular. Just something to use as needed. I will not be counting on it for a party. Just basic stuff
With our new home, we got all GE appliances. Im not sure the "level" of appliaces but the ice maker for our fridge is totally useless. I can fill a 30oz yeti with ice and damn near drain it.
I have been just having a few bags of ready ice in the freezer for drinks. I have always preferred
the Ready Ice for making drinks anyway.
