Question on outdoor wooden furniture refinishing

had a couple old adirondack chairs that were old and falling apart. I've refinished them and used new hardware and now I'm trying to determine the best route for sealing/painting. Should I just try and find a colored sealant? Doesn't seem like it would make much sense to use a sealer and then paint over it? Anyone have any suggestions on brands? I'm new to this stuff.

What is on them currently?

there was red paint but I've sanded them and applied wood filler and re-sanded so not much of anything right now.

Prime, sand again to smooth out the wood because the grain will raise a bit with the prime. Then a couple coats of good exterior latex paint should do the trick.
Just pick your color and go with it. Latex has come a long way in endurance over the years and is now the overwhelming choice for painters to use.
Besides, it cleans up with soap and water instead of $10 a gallon mineral spirits.
