Question about lintels

To avoid water intrusion should I run a bead of silicone between the window frame and this steel lintel? I’ve gotten conflicting reports with most saying to leave open to prevent rusting, but a brick mason that did work for me instructioned me to seal the gaps as the galvanized steel wouldn’t rust. Any advice??

In theory your house wrap or water proofing will be lapped from the sheathing, over the lintel, then some sorth of flashing would be placed over that.
If everything was done correctly, the area behind the lintel is protected by this, caulking that gap would only hold moisture in if that assembly failed. Holding water in is never good.

OP, what is the likelihood water would ever get up there? Surely your soffit overhang is sufficient to prevent any water from really ever contacting that point. I wouldn’t caulk it, but that’s just me.

when it's raining sideways water will get to the lintel. In commercial buildings that gap is usually sealed.

If it’s going to keep you up at night, caulk it with a thin bead of silicone. It won’t hurt.
The brick weeps will let the wall vent, no worries there.
Side note, I’ve tore off a few grave openings with very old lintels and no water damage behind them.

Sealant with backer rod is the proper sealant method at the window to lintel. You should have flashing between lintel and brick with weeps at about 24"-36" on center between the folder bricks. It looks like you do not have flashing, although it could be buried in the grout. I also do not see any weeps. This will cause rusting of your lintel and cracking of your masonry grout above the lintel in the future.
