A non-profit group has asked me for assistance to design and install wild duck proofing around upcoming hibiscus and others veg plantings. Anyone have any experience with semi-wild waterfowl and how to protect plants from them? this will be in a public park in south LA. thanks

My first instinct of a 12 gauge is probably not the response you're seeking. Sorry. Hope someone can help

I would go with chicken wire and some t-post. I would not think they would fly into a smaller sized garden. If they fly into the garden use a netting (think trawl netting) and use post to have it cover the over the top of the garden.

I would approach it like we do for deer and rabbits so choose plants that ducks don't like such as rosebushes and juniper. A wire cage is going to be ugly IMO. You also might want to look at plants that are poisonous to ducks. Maybe you do want to poison them but I would not.

You can buy wire coated with green plastic and green fiberglass stakes. It would blend in better than plain chicken wire.
