I have a project in the near future to do so.
Can I do this? Is there a time period that I need to wait to paint or semi transparent stain? Is there something to spray first?
TIA

use a solid stain
I would let it dry a couple of weeks before applying

Get a moisture meter. Wait till it drops below 15% moisture level.

let it dry as said. If you want to paint it and do the very best job, use bonding primer. but bp is very expensive and probably not feasible if it's a lot of wood.

Sherwin Williams wood scapes works well.

Use solid color stain if you want it to look painted. As far as when it’s ready- put a drop of water on it - if it beads up - wait. If the drop readily soaks into the wood, so will stain.
