Overgrown Azaleas

I am looking to cut back a large area mature azaleas. Some parts are too thick for loppers. A chainsaw doesn't seem practical. I'm thinking of trying to chain them an pull them. Thoughts?

They make long handle loppers for thicker branches. I just did some of this type maintenance recently. I didn't cut them back too hard, but that needs to be done at some point.

I’ve done the chainsaw deal on mine before. Whacked down to abt 2-3 ft of sticks left and they come back perfect. Also bought the hedge trimmer attachment for my Echo PAS and it lets me keep them knocked down. It eats a pretty big limb.

A lot of these are as big around as a paper towel center or a 50 cent piece. Even with a chainsaw, someone would have to hold one end.
it is about 50 square yards. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Just an FYI, I believe they suggest the best time to prune Azaleas is just after they bloom.
