Just had 6 Eagleston Hollies and 2 sea foam camellias planted 1 week ago. They are decent size. Besides mulch and frost protection blankets to wrap around the root ball, should I do anything else? I have some burlap I’m thinking about wrapping around the root ball, too, and/or wrap around the foliage. I’m in Lafayette, and temps are expected to reach 23 degrees Monday night, and below freezing temps for most of next week in the early morning hours. I was going to soak the root balls Sunday night for added protection.

Likelihood that they’ll survive the next 10 days?

I suspect they will be fine.

With the rain we're getting, I don't think you'll need to water tomorrow night.

You’re fine - you are doing more to protect them than you need to. Those shrubs are very hardy at low-freezing temperatures - even newly planted. Watering the rootballs is OK but with the anticipated rain that’s likely not necessary.

FWIW the boys at Tallahassee Nurseries (definitely know their stuff) told me the camellia leaves don't take any damage, just the buds. They just huddled the plants under trees, no blankets etc.
