Cleaning out a barn I just purchased and it’s over run with carpenter ants on the inside. Tried to remove everything I could that was infested and was wood.
What can I do to prevent future infestations?

Taurus is way over kill for what you need. I would use Bifen instead. Spray around the outside of barn

Carpenter ants need moisture, make sure everything is staying dry even with treatment.

If the ants nest is somewhere where you are not sure where it is (like in a wall), then ant gel baits are the way to go. The ant gel baits are awesome for carpenter ants. The ants go crazy slurping up the gel, take it back to the nest where they regurgitate and share the gel with the other ants. Poisoned ants start dying and they are eaten. In about 3 days or so, all of the ants in the nest including the queen are dead. Stuff is amazing.
Before we got the ant gel, the carpenter ants were driving us crazy in our sunroom. They were coming out of cracks in caulk around a window and also out of vinyl siding on the ceiling and top part of a wall. We were spraying them with ant spray and squishing them.
I bought 4 syringes online and put out about about 5 one inch long strips out of the syringe. I put them on small cardboard pieces cut off of a frozen dinner box and put those out where I saw ants. Within a day I saw about a half dozen to a dozen carpenter ants eating the gel at any given time. A couple of days later I saw no more ants.
I bought the Advion Ant Gel online at DoMyOwn Pest Control. Read the feedback there on this product. Also, feel free to call the 1-800 number on the website. These guys are pest control experts and will be glad to discuss your specific situation and give you advice.
I bought the 4 syringe pack but I used less than 1/2 of a syringe. You could buy one syringe for less than $15. If you try the ant gel, don't kill the ants physically or with ant killer insecticides. You want the ants to eat the gel and make it back to the nest to kill ALL of the rest of the ants.
