I have a ~10' x 25' garden that is being redone due to taking a water oak out. My plan is to put 3 Celeste Fig trees in the garden and then a smaller shrub/bush circling the entire perimeter of the garden. Must like full sun - I had issues with Azaleas not really doing well in the garden before. Looking for recommendations for something that I can keep trimmed to stay under ~4' - bonus points for nice flowers

ETA: Madisonville LA (zone 9a)

Not sure what zone you are in but I bet Jim Putnam has a playlist specifically for you. He has many full sun recommendation playlists on his YouTube channel.

S&K Greenhouse also has some great videos.

Your soil may not be acidic enough for azalea. Get it checked then plant accordingly or amend it to get the pH down. When azaleas are in full sun, you have to be careful about water stress, but otherwise they do fine in sun.

you won't get flowers but dwarf yaupon holly is evergreen, resilient, and low maintenance.
