Like an old trusty dog, my old DeWalt 1/4" drive drill is on her last leg.

Done many a project with it. Power works on it but it seems like the brushes are wore out. Batteries charge great but drill goes in and out.

Went and bought another DeWalt 1/4" drive the other day and works like a pile-driver.

Its a 20vMax 1/4" drive, model #DCF885.

So before I send her off to the ole tool house in the sky, is it worth it to try to replace the brushes? Can I even get brushes for the drill?

I bet its the trigger thats failing. Its what always retires my dewalt drills and drivers. The OEM triggers are 3/4 the price of a new tool so I just buy new when on sale. Off-brand triggers I haven't had much luck with.

Yes, got a spare set for mine for less than $15 with shipping. Pretty straightforward repair too. Even got parts for my old 14.4V XRP 1/4" impact driver, still going strong after 20 years.

Just changed brushes on a 20 year old dewalt drill. Paid $20 for replacement brushes from Amazon. Watched a YouTube video. Very simple. Runs like a new drill

The DeWalt drill trigger cost about 1/2 of what I just paid for a new DeWalt drill.

Going to try the brushes as others have suggested.

Real men only use a 3/8 or bigger drill.
