That aluminum part at the bottom that kinda line a coil with no ice on it is the heater. If it gets hot your defrost system is working. Don't touch it. It gets burn the skin hot.
With that being good and a good frost pattern and not icing over. I would look at fan or thermostat / thermistor. Fan should run whenever compressor is on. May have to push. The door switch button.

Thanks so much. Im going to let it run for a week or so then check the coil/frost pattern again. For now, its not changing. And yes, when the fan was off that heater was hot. Now that its turning, the heater is not hot. So I assume that is working correctly.

I will keep an eye on it for a little bit and report back. See if it starts to ice up any. I use that freezer for bait. I need to make a run up to St Pete soon and buy a ton of bait. I dont want to do that until I feel comfortable that the fridge is not going to wig out on me. Plus, it is much harder to check the coil once I put a few hundred pounds of squid and herring in there.

Thanks so much for your help with the explanations. I actually have a electronic engineering background so I totally understand the testing. I looked around for the control board but did not locate it. I did however look up a parts list for my model number and one is listed for replacement. $97.

No timer is listed so I think you were correct. the board controls all the logic.

Worst job i think I ever had was a bait freezer that went bad while the owner was out of town.
Just needed a relay but I had a hard time not throwing up.

Honestly, If my totally failed and everything inside spoiled in there, I would just strap the door shut and take that thing to the dump and buy a new one.

Man there is nothing on this planet that smells worse than hot spoiled squid and herring.

Well I went in the garage late last night after our party and it had frozen up again. The alarm was going off as well. UGH

I may try one or two things but Im not going to dump a ton of money in this thing. I can get a new one right now for $625

My fridge had this issue and I fixed it for 70 bucks using Grok and Youtube. Grok gave me the link directly to the needed parts. Fixed it in December and has worked great since. Wife still not impressed despite a smal amount of electrical work.

Napoleon, I am starting to believe I have a door seal issue like some here said.

My freezer has been closed for over a week and I finally opened it today and checked the coil and it had almost NO frost on it. Must less ice.

When it was freezing up, I was going in and out of it a lot. Im starting to think the door sea is bad, even though I checked it 100 times, and thats whey it is so slow and intermittent.

I cleaned out a fishing camp freezer after Katrina. Had an alligator head and a bunch of fish filets in there.

Had been off a couple weeks and it was hot outside. I was gagging and some vomit came out and I just managed to hold it in. One of those smells you never forget.

We threw the whole chest freezer away.
