You don't have to wait to for vines and muscadines to make wine. I made a halfway decent wine a few weeks ago using store brand grape juice. If it'll ferment.... it'll wine.

Check out City Steading Brews on Youtube for more info. Our muscadines are about half a month away from harvest.

Are you aware of any muscadine juice only wine recipes? I've only been able to find recipes using the whole grapes.

I've found some grape juice wine recipes online. I can probably convert them using pure muscadine juice.

Can anyone recommend a particular kind of wine yeast for muscadines? I did some googlin' and found a bunch of responses.

I have two 100’ single wire trellises, five vines per row. I don’t make wine, but love eating them. I usually give about 35 pounds a year to my buddy who makes wine with them.

My best producing, self-fertile bronze muscadine is a Tara. My youngest self fertile purple vine is an Ison. I just planted it this spring and already pulled off flower clusters to allow the root system to get well established. Ison’s are supposed to be very prolific.

My best tasting purple female is a Black Beauty. It’s an average producer for me.

My best tasting bronze female is a Darlene. It’s probably the best tasting and largest of them all, but is the least productive.

How old are your vines and how many pounds do you estimate they produce per year?

Most are 7 years old. A few are younger vines that replaced some that weren’t productive. A very rough estimate is that before last year they probably produced about 75 pounds. When Hurricane Ida hit a couple years ago, it stripped every leaf off of the vines. The following season (last year) production was really low. I assume it was because of the hurricane the year before. This year looks to be okay, but still not where they were before the hurricane.

I see no one has posted this Louisiana Home Muscadine Production - it’s current, published in August 2022.
