Why would the water not be on the exterior wall? The tub sticks out further than the cabinets.

If one really wanted it in that little space -- which I suppose exists to not steal closet space from adjoining rooms? -- a much better solution would be to simply tile that entire alcove with the tub all the way to the tiled walls and the plumbing on a side wall.
