So I'm attempting to make Cornhole boards for a friend's birthday. Using 1/2" thick birch plywood.

This will be my first attempt at such a project. I searched on here figuring someone must have posted about this before, but I found nothing.

Anyone make boards before? Any tips/hints/pictures you can share?

YouTube is probably going to be your friend.

I don't have any particular plans, but make them as light as you can while still giving them some heft. I made my boards way too heavy without realizing it.
Also, a bar across the midsection can prevent a bouncing affect from taking place with the bags.

Take three boards 8 inches wide and cut to 48 in long. Put a board on the back to keep them together on top middle and bottom, then finish the sides with 2x4 to make complete, cut 8 in 2/4 for legs and use a jigsaw to cut out hole.
Redneck Corn hole.
Youtube or Pinterest will probably get you there as well.

I used birch on my first set I ever made.

Tips:

Buy 4x8 birch at Home Depot or Lowe’s and have them cut it in half for the top of your boards

Don’t inlay the top

Use polycrylic to finish the top, not polyurethane.

Be deliberate when cutting the legs. It can be tricky.

Buy good bags. I prefer the stick/slide bags.

Look into wraps, they have TONS of them, and they're fairly priced. Makes a huge difference to the finished product (looks and playability) IMO.

If you want to go next level with the boards, I had this link saved as a good set of boards to build.

How to build cornhole boards

I like the cupholders, clasps, carrying straps, and bag holder underneath.

I made some a couple of years ago. I bought a cheap hole saw from amazon to help with that. There are plenty of youtube videos for instructions and for the regulation sizes.
