Lorapetalum Questions

I am looking to plant a nice hedge of these and have them grow into small trees over time. My neighbor has one about 20' x 15' that looks like a small Japanese maple. She planted it about a decade ago. But, the only ones I ever see for sale are dwarf varieties - 'Ruby' or 'Zhouzhou'
Are there any large varieties I can buy/order?? Or have any of y'all ever tried propagation? Might could take some cuttings from the neighbor's tree.

There are certainly older, larger varieties of loropedalum available for planting, but retail gardens center carry what customers desire-want, they just can’t carry everything in stock. However, many of the smaller privately owned garden centers owners-managers will be happy order a variety for you from their plant nursery wholesale suppliers - they may get deliveries weekly from their suppliers and they’ll just put them on the truck for you. So check into that.

We have a landscape architect that posts on this board “Zappas Stache” that might recommend larger cultivars if he sees your OP. I remember Zappas saying in his experience loropedalums have a tendency to grow much larger-taller than is often stated in the literature or what is stated on the plant cultivar tag. From my personal experience in planting some at house, that is my experience as well, although I guess mine could have also been mis-tagged at the wholesale plant nursery.
You can certainly take cuttings from you neighbor and try to produce your own, but that will set you back a minimum of 3-4 years, and if the cuttings fail, longer.

Neither of the varieties you listed are dwarfs. They will both get as big as you let them.

Plum Delight is the most popular full size, then Ruby.
