Looking to build a rope fence. Need some ideas!Posted by UFownstSECsince1950

Looking for some kind of fittings in order to attach the rope to the corner posts. Was originally going to simply drill a deck screw or something similar through the rope and into the post. Looking online, I see other options such as the fitting pictures below. Anyone else have any ideas?

Is it all for show? Cause that setup in the pic is only as strong as that screw into the rope. I’d think about putting a hole in that post, run the rope through & secure it on the back side with something beefier. If just for show and you’re looking for different ideas on looks, imagine passing the rope through the hole, into that same chrome sleeve, push the sleeve into the back side hole, screw it down. Then the front side would look like the rest of the posts. You could even hide the hole/sleeve in back by countersinking/ covering it. Lol, that make sense?

Yeah, I just didn’t want anything protruding on the outside of the corner posts both ways (both front and side), since rope is coming from 2 ways. I would just take the rope through the post and simply tie and knot and screw it secure, but I don’t think it would look good having knots on 2 sides of the same post
Something similar to this, but obviously this looks better since it’s more of a railing, rather than a connected fence.

Is the corner post having your fence make a 90?
Why not have the rope make the 90 inside the post?

Cut the top off, drill out the middle with a first er bit, drop holes from each side, thread rope through, tie knots and stuff back inside, put top back on. A 6x6 post would be easier to hide it.
For the lower ropes, drill through cut a recess and have the rope at a 90 on the less seen side, cover with a facia board of same material as post
That metal piece shown up top is more decorative vs structural.

Still not sure what kind of rope to use (polyester, manilla, etc), but if it’s only 1” or 1.5” rope, then there should be plenty of space to make that turn in a 4x6 post. Would a spade bit be best to use from each side?

UF here is what I got. I ran 2 inch polyester rope thru 4x4's.
The corner 90 degree post is a little tricky but it works.

I have this style in 3 areas of my yard. All of the ropes just run thru the holes, they are not secured, and they aint gonna just pull out.
The rope is tight in the holes. .

Why? It’s not code it dries out it sticks In your hands like needles hell just go get scrap cable. Building codes suck but they can protect you if you have no railing and something happens you are screwed and rope is NO railing. Do you like the look? If so get Coated
