Looking for plant ideas for pool area

I have a large planter square box that's part of my pool structure. It has a waterfall feature and sits about three feet above the rest of the pool coping level. I'm looking for some ideas than a palm tree for the planter. Climate zone is 9a.

Hibiscus and sunpatiens work great around our pool. They flower all summer and don't mind the sun.
Plus, I cheated and planted a few pepper plants behind the hisbiscus.

Trim planter with miniature/regular box woods then put dwarf/regular knockout roses. If you have room add a Camellia sasanqua tree in the middle (blooms in the winter but it’s an evergreen). Three different heights. Very easy care and looks clean and sleek.
Dwarf or regular size depends on the size of the planter.
