Lifespan of metal roof and insurance

My uncle was telling me about his home insurance going up 50% in east TX. When he asked his agent to shop around she came back and said because his metal roof was 14 years old that the other insurances have a policy of not taking on new policies if the roof is over 10 years. Didn't matter what kind of roof. He ended up having to stay with old insurance and the 50% hike.
I've been thinking of getting a metal roof but now I'm not so sure. Whats the point of a 30-50year roof if you don't have insurance options on it? Sounds insane.
He did have her also shop for getting insurs without the roof but those options also exclude the structure of the roof as well. ie, everything down to the stud walls, rafters, ect.
Its very possible he told me incorrect stuff or I misunderstood so does this all sound like the current state of things from what yall are hearing/seeing?

just build a new house every 10 years and you got nothing to worry about.

I changed my HO insurance to a different company earlier this year. I did not is they ask how old the roof was (shingle), had someone come out and use a GO-Pro on a stick to take several pictures of the roof.
I ask my agent about all the concern with the roof and he said it is due to the companies getting hosed the past few years with the storms. Also said if would have had a metal roof I would have had to sign a waiver agreeing that they would not cover any claims for "dents" to the metal roof due to hail, falling limbs, etc.etc.

This seems reasonable. I get why rates are up with building costs and insurance companies trying to mitigate risk, but at some point insurance co's need premiums to exist and they need customers for that.
Maybe my Uncle's agent did a shite job of shopping?
