re: Leaf filter system: is it worth it?

100% worth it. Has gutters installed without last year, first hard rain water was pouring over side of the gutter and when I checked the gutters were clogged by leaves already. This was within a month of gutter installation. Added them within the week, and only have to clear leaves in certain spots every so often now.

Leaf filter system
The complaints I've heard are more about the company than the product. People who bought that system told me about a high-pressure sales pitch with a huge discount "only if you buy today," and lazy installers who put that pricey product on gutters that aren't fully cleaned out, thereby making the problem worse.
I'd recommend a conventional gutter screen, installed by a local contractor with a good reputation.
Regardless of the gutter cover you choose, the gutters are still likely to clog over time and you'll be faced with a more expensive removal, cleanout and reinstallation job.
ETA: at least if you buy conventional gutter screens any future removal, cleanout and reinstallation should be straightforward and not too expensive for a contractor to perform.

I rue the day I bought the Home Depot/Lowes slip under shingles snap in versions. They’re absolute dogcrap. Pine needles gather on top and when it rains they get weighted down and the needles go right into the gutters. I still have to get on the ladder every month in fall and spring. Last time I cleaned the gutters I threw them all away. The foam mesh ones aren’t much better.

Honestly, I don’t know why anyone would want gutters on a house. They seem like virtually no benefit and a giant pain in the arse.

Bought these, installed myself in 2 hours and they are great. We have a lot of pine needles and they bunch up a bit but get blown off quickly. Regular leaves just fall over then.
They are not sturdy and I figure I’ll replace them every few years. It’s been two years already and it seems like they’ll last another 2-3 easy.

But the Home Depot ones like in my picture. They have a plastic screen over then and pine needles don’t go in.
They will bunch up from time to time but mostly a good windy day will blow them all off. I’ve had to manually brush them off maybe twice.

Yes those are the ones I had. My experience was that wet pine needles made them bow downwards into the gutter. At the sections between panels they would then release pine needles and gradeau into the gutter. Second, I had a mama squirrel chew through the plastic and nest underneath and have babies. She was as surprised as I was when I accidentally grabbed her one day while cleaning gutters. Thankfully I was gloved. That was the weekend I threw all of them in the trash.

Don’t butte the panels up to each other.
On the outside part of the gutter, the part that clips on to the gutter, I cut about an inch of the clip part off so the panels could overlap. It makes the whole system sturdier and there’s no gap for needless to get in.

Yes. We also have a couple of large maples next to our house.
We upgraded to the oversized gutters and leaf protection on our 2 story house.
Too hard to clean our gutters with the high roof and steep pitch. Rather pay to engineer out having to clean them.
