Im sure some of you ballers have awesome mowers, but for those who do not, do you have a striper kit? Worth it, or gimmick?

You have to have the right grass. Centipede, st aug, thick blade grasses like this won’t stripe for more than a day. Bermuda will hold for a few days. Northern grasses will lay down between cuts great.

I do not know what kind of grass I have. I am in the North. I was just reading the mowing thread and might take some pics tomorrow and ask for a few suggestions.

How far north?

To make stripes you need a reel mower.

No you don't. You can get a doohickey that attaches to your lawn mower that's filled with sand or water.

Sorry but that is false. It may stripe better but you can definitely stripe with a rotary

I have St Aug. I rigged a push broom brush to the back of my deck with a piece of angle iron and some bolts. If you don't scalp your grass and cut it at say 3" or higher you can see some striping. It won't be like the northern lawns like some other posters have said, but you will still see some lines in a week when you have to mow again

You sure those aren’t just tire marks?

Yeah you have to mow it high and it’ll be gone the next morning

The lower you mow it, it will be less green anyway. 3" for St Aug is perfect

Centipede, cut at 3". Very vibrant in the sun directly after a cut...fades in just a couple days. I cut with a Kubota zero turn, no striping attachments

I don't care about the stripes, but that's a really good looking lawn, especially for being so big.

I’m going to try 3 inch on centipede this year but almost all Universities say to keep it lower than 2.
