Kenmore dishwasher problems.. advice needed

I started it one night went back to see if it had finished.. all the proper lights were on but there was a blinking light (Lock On). I open and the soap door is still shut and the pod is in there and water is in the bottom of washer.. I hit cancel/drain and it starts to drain.. Seems to finish draining I open and there is still water in the bottom...
Now lights are off completely and machine is non-responsive... I cut power to reset.. Lights come back on and machine tries to start when I hit the drain button then stops and lights go out and machine is non-responsive... I cut power again and no lights at all this time.. Then I leave door open and a few days later I noticed lights randomly came on without cutting power.. Same thing I hit drain and tries to start then stops and lights go out..
The machine is 20 years old and has never given me any trouble, I use it about once a week. Kenmore is a great brand and I am on the fence of just replacing it or fixing it myself.. I don't think the fuse is blown but I think the main computer board is bad.. Also in consideration is the cost of the board.. Any advice?

I would just replace it. No need to throw parts at a 20 year old DW. Just don't buy a bottom of the barrel model. Bosch is a solid brand and quiet.

I have heard Bosch is the best out there.. But the budget is tight right now.. I could possibly swing the lowest cost one and I guess that one is still better than some of the other brands? Home Depot has one for around $700...

Yeah I would go with that one. Just avoid Samsung. During COVID when I was laid off I use to buy broken dishwashers and fix them for resell. Samsungs are incredibly un reliable and hard to work on.

You certainly got your $ out of that unit. FYI, Kenmore is just a brand names for Sears - they don’t manufacture their own products. Your dishwasher was manufactured by Whirlpool, GE, ……or some other company. The first 3 letters of the model number will tell you manufacturer, and you can get that info from an internet search.
Hopefully poster Napoleon, small appliance repairman, will see your post and weigh in to help you. But he often asks the poster the model number of the appliance so perhaps you want to update your OP to include the model number.

Good advice I was able to find out it is made by Whirlpool... And the Main Control board is $198..
Google lists the common problems as:
Common Replacement Parts
Drain Filters & Pumps: Often get clogged, affecting cleaning and draining efficiency.
Water Inlet Valves: Frequently replaced when the unit stops filling with water.
Door Gaskets: Replaced if you notice water leaking from the front of the unit.
Control Boards: Can short out or become unresponsive

Bosch 500 series checking in. Only thing I don't like about it, is plastics do not dry well, so we have to pull them and set them out to dry. I think the 800 has an extra drying feature.
