You still have to wash the filter one a month. Most HVAC guys do not recommend the washable filters because you never get all the dirt out of them. I found this to be true when I had a washable filter. Switched back to regular filters when I couldn’t get the media in the washable filter white anymore.

Cheap blue ones, once a month. The others restrict airflow, and not recommended by your ac guy.

if you are interested in air quality at all, look at getting a 5" deep filter housing installed. The 5" deep filters remove much more particles, allergens and even viruses depending on the MERV rating you shoot for. They also have lower pressure drop (better for equipment longevity) and last anywhere from 1 to 2 years between changes.

you'd get better indoor air quality AND much less maintenance.
