It is interesting to watch how fire ants react to bed disturbance

I stirred up a bed next to some concrete today while working. What was interesting was how fast the small worker ants raced out onto the concrete in a zigzag pattern I assume looking for the threat. The larger ants were out later and patrolled the area near the bed. Much of this probably has to do with the larger ants being deeper. The little ants were like rockets though setting up the perimeter, and are probably the ones that will bite you if you are standing back.

Sprays from a can of brake cleaner made short work of them. I almost hated to harm them, but really didn’t have a choice.

What’s on the agenda for tomorrow, checking the status of that wet paint?

Yes

Third Rule of War: One must kill all ants.

I used to stuff unlit firecrackers and caps of gasoline all in the mounds. The ants would rush out and cover the caps and firecrackers. I'd use a Roman candle and unload on the mounds lighting the gas which would light the firecrackers as a bonus. The joys of being a kid.

Get a shovel and scoop one mound onto another. They will go to ant war.
