Is there an affordable way to add an irrigation meter?

So my house does not have one. I watered the hell out of my lawn the past two months and got a fat water bill. Fatter than I was hoping for. A massive chunk of this is a much higher sewer bill even though almost all of my water increase is from irrigation and not entering the sewer system.
Called the utility company and they said it’d be thousands to have them add one. It would take several years in savings to offset that.
Is there any way this can be done affordably or am I pretty much fricked on water my yard?

Should be the parish/county water department and a flat fee you pay up front depending on size. This information should be on their website.

I added one in Baton Rouge 15 yrs ago and it was $250 flat at that time. With our sewage prices it pays for itself multiple times every year. Also had the larger line installed at that time.
