Is gel stain a good option for outdoor furniture?

Specifically a birch porch swing im finally finished sanding. I havent stained and finished anything in ages and I'm not up to speed on some of the newer products. I've done a little reading but im wondering if it holds up the same with something that sees some wear

I do a lot of wood projects and really like the OSMO brand wood oil products. Colors are great with a "natural" appearance and they're easy to apply. Since they're oil you don't have to sand off to eventually refresh the coat.
Not sure about you area but they're stocked at most better paint stores near me.

Keep in mind that a stain is not a sealer.

Looks like a sold product I'll keep that in mind with some garden benches we have
Not sure if it matters but its a porch swing and will stay mostly out of the elements. I purchased a Minwax coffee colored gel stain and was going to use either a spray or brush on urethane to finish it
After buying the gel stain I read where it's a surface stain basically and was unsure if this was ideal. I could easily just purchase a traditional stain if it's not

The advantage of a gel stain is that it is less likely to blotch. I think birch tends to blotch, so gel stain might be a good choice.
I wouldn’t worry about surface vs penetrating. If you wear through the top, protective coat of finish then it will look like crap anyway and require some attention.

The gel stain will require a lengthy dry time before applying a second coat
