I thought 1/ft was high twenty years ago. Did it ourselves, several different houses since then. Simple to do, save a ton of money.

Agree, I got quotes for $2500-3000 to add insulation to our camp, bought $800 worth of insulation from lowes , free rental of thier blower and wife and I did it in about 3 hours including clean up, and we added a lot more than they were going to, has made a big difference

This is what I did. (Home Depot) I got $800 worth of the white fiberglass to blow on top of my existing pink fiberglass. It took a few hours with my wife cutting bales and feeding the free rental machine. It's made a pretty big difference. I was able to encapsulate a few of the longer runs of duct work in the process.

My master closet is the longest run from the supply plenum. Yesterday in our near 100F temps, I was changing after work and it was ice cold out of that duct. Years past it would have been cool due to the thermal load it picked up along the 60' run.

I've had better cycles. More downtime between cycles and easily able to keep my house at 71F. It still runs 90% of the time in the full heat of these summer evenings, but it doesn't climb in temp in the house.
