Have seen some things say 1-2 months and others waiting much longer. Thanks

Centipede grass, get a lot of weeds in back yard generally. Fall was first time I have put down the prodiamine

Apply pre-emergent now and later in the fall. Whether or not you apply another another application, 3 months or so after your Feb application, say around May 1, might depend on the types of weeds you have in your lawn. Some summer weed seeds don’t germinate until soil temps hit 70 F - goosegrass, Doveweed are couple that come to mind - there are others - about the the time the efficacy of your Feb application of Prodiamine is waning. But don’t exceed annual labeled rate provided on the herbicide container whether you make 2 or 3 applications.

It still might be a little cool to be using Celsius - personally I don’t use until April/May. I’m using atrazine + weed free zone now for spot spraying my lawn weeds.

I’m using these products and this mixture. You can get the herbicides at retail garden centers, some hardware stores, but usually not at the big box stores.

If you have weeds thoughtout the lawn spray the entire lawn as described. For a 1000 sq ft of coverage I need to mix those products in 2 gallons of water b/c my sprayer dispenses 2 gallons per 1000 sq ft at my walking gait. The important thing is to disperse that amount of herbicide over 1000 sq ft - think of the amount water needed as a carrier, not a dilutant.

However, If you need spot spray small patches of weeds, I personally mix the herbicides and surfactant (spreader/sticker) in 1 gallon of water and spray the patches.

What's the timeline you use as in before and after rains? I wanted to spray yesterday but held off due to the weather this week.

That information is almost always stated on the herbicide’s label. For example, Weed Free Zone label states it is “rain fast” with 3 hours. Atrazine, on the other hand, label states rain within 2 or 3 days may decrease its effectiveness on already emerged weeds, but then it’s recommended to water it in with 7-10 days to kill weed seeds as they germinate (atrazine has pre-emergent properties as well).

Bottom line it’s herbicide specific, most post-emergent herbicides discussed on this board are rain fast within several hours. Pre-emergent herbicides on the other hand need to watered in into root/soil zone where the weed seeds are located so rain shortly after applying is ideal. I try to apply pre-emergent herbicide within a day or 2 of a rain event.

My prodiamine wdg 65 label says .5” of rain or irrigation within 14 days of application. I sprayed on Sunday and we got a little bit of rain today, and there’s more rain coming tomorrow. I’m well within the 14 days, so I hope it’s effective. Does it start to break down if it’s not watered in soon enough?

I assume so - many pesticides breakdown more quickly in the presence of sunlight (photolysis) - one reason they are packaged in opaque containers.

Washing the active ingredients into the root zone where it binds to soil particles reduces exposure to sunlight, but of course that’s where it needs to be anyway to kill weed seed embryos when they germinate.
