Husquvarna 435e/440e chainsaws

Looking to buy one in the next week or two. These models seem to have decent quality/price for the size that I'm wanting. Main use is firewood and small land clearing with no really big trees. The only difference between the 435 and 440 seems to be the bar length (16" vs 18"). Anyone have opinions on these models, or anything else that I should look at before buying?
Thanks
Thanks

Both would be adequate for smaller trees and general use.
They both seem to be the same power head. The 440 with the 18" bar I would expect to see it struggle some in larger hard woods if you really bury the bar deep.
Being a husky it will be reliable and durable. Just remember it is a "home owner" grade saw; they use a clam shell design for cutting cost.
I wouldn't say I am partial to Stihl; I have just always bought them due to local dealer support.
If you wanted a Stihl to compare, I'd look at the MS250 W/ 18" bar. I actually own one. It has slightly more displacement than what you are looking at and it still likes to lug some when burying the bar in hard wood. I wouldn't say one is better than the other, just throwing that out there as they are roughly the same price/weight/length.
I am actually planning to pick up a new Pro MS362 this week for land up keep and handling the larger jobs.

Hi,
About Husky models... I have a 455 Rancher. I’ve had it for many years. The main reason that I selected that model was because it has a compression release for easy starting.
I live in the sierras and there are tons of oaks at our elevation. My 455 ALWAYS fires right up & has the hp (3 1/2) to cut oak all day long.
When you start and stop the saw 20 times, believe me, the compression release makes a huge difference!

I don’t know jack about saws, but my Timberwolf is a beast. Price and reviews were right. Cut more trees after Laura than I ever care to see again.

I have a husky 300 (I think), anyway, the teeth on the chain is the small variety, very hard to sharpen. Make sure the 400’s have the big teeth on the chain. Get something that has a bite for your saw file. Huskies are fast, but will leak oil. Still has a great sound and easy to crank. Get a Stijl.

I bought a refurbed 435 6 years ago and have been very pleased. It seems to have a lot of power and it always cranks right up.

His comments are accurate you have to let the saw do the work. It does not have the horse power for you to bear down on the bar and it keep pulling. Not something hard to deal with but you will notice it. I have had a 440 for about a decade I would guess never had an issue other than it uses a lot of bar oil. It is a known problem not sure if they fixed it but I only use it a few times a year so alittle extra bar oil does not hurt my feelings for a reliable saw that cracks after a couple pulls and fires right up.

I have a refurbished Husky 435 and a Husky refurb weed eater I bought from Northern Tool. Both have been good buys.
Northern Tool
Use Northern Tool coupon code 271096 and get $20 off $100. If that code doesn't work google will find you one that will.

Thank y'all for all of the replies. Ending up going with the 435 Northern Tool refurb. Cost was $230 total after theft and shipping. Thought the 18" might be a little much for that displacement as some posters mentioned above and the 16" should suit my needs just fine. I had no idea Northern Tool had refurbished equipment. Might go off the deep end and get some unnecessary stuff at those prices!

The Husqvarna Reconditioned 128LD Straight Shaft String Trimmer is damn good trimmer. If you watch the price over the winter it should go down. I got one for $118 with a $20 off $100 coupon code from Northern.

Good saw and solid price, congrats on the purchase.

It'll for sure pull an 18" bar; just would lug easily with the bar buried and pulling against the dogs.
I am inclined to say the 16" is a better suit for it. However, if you find yourself wanting/needing the 18" bar/chain, just remember you can always purchase them and swap it onto the power head in no time.
