I have these huge skinks around my house and yard. I’ve never seen them anywhere before. Some of them are almost a foot long. Nasty looking things and they are not very frightened by humans until you get right up on them. They just stare at you and hold their ground. Anyone else have these critters around their house?

they are beautiful well adapted apex predators that eat insects, snails, and the like that otherwise would bother you. They won’t bite you or anything else and are a sign of health in your part of the ecosystem. Let them be

Just the blue tails, though I suspect the shitty stray cats in the area are thinning them out. I haven't seen many at all this year.

They're completely harmless and doing you a great service by eating pests. Leave them be.

I have a relative in CenLa that has some this year. I typically don’t kill them, but they look a little too much like a snake for my taste!

I don’t hurt them but they do kinda creep me out. I have a lot of them around my house and on my back patio. My wife would die if one ever got into the house.

Broad headed skink.
They will bite you if you grab them, but it is a harmless bite

Try telling my chickens that! They tore one about 8" (not counting tail) long to shreds on Saturday

Chickens are so vicious. Closest thing to modern day dinosaurs that exist today in my opinion.

If chickens were left unchecked I'm pretty sure they would take over the world and it would be devoid of vegetation in 1 month

I saw these in St. James Parish as a kid when we ran around in the woods and swampy areas. One was a foot long and we caught it, caged it for about a month and fed it crickets, grasshoppers, and we also gave it raw ground beef. We released it after we satisfied our curiosity.
