Finished hooking up my Waterdrop tankless RO system last night but (stupidly) didn’t realize the power outlet under the sink is on a switch for the garbage disposal.

Is there a way to safely get continuous power to that outlet and keep the garbage disposal on a switch?

Planning to call an electrician, but want to see what I’m in for.

Is there not power for your dishwasher under the sink? I think that’s pretty typical.

Pulled the dishwasher out and it almost looks hardwired if that’s even possible. Has a heavy gauge yellow wire going into the wall…no clue where it’s connected beyond that. Not a receptacle though.

Hurry up and do it before Louisiana adopts the latest kitchen code updates. They’re a doozy. Only $100-200 difference though probably. $300-500 job basically for showing up. $600 if they want to update breaker.

What are the changes? My house was built in 2011, if that matters.

cut the power off. mount a junction box. run one wire to your dishwasher and another to your RO.

Agreed. Add box to where yellow wire comes through wall.

Are you sure both outlets are switched OP? Often one is on the switch and the other is not.

As said you can pull power from the dishwasher and mount an external outlet box. Very simple job really. Hardest part will be doing it all under the sink

I would put in a receptacle where yellow romex comes out of wall. Put a cord on dishwasher. Plug both of them into receptacle. Now when you need to work on either one you can unplug.
Kill power before working on romex. Be safe.

GFI and AFI for all kitchen branches, not just the small appliances branches.

Agreed. Check the outlet.

Yes. I plugged the RO into the second outlet and got nothing unless I flipped the switch.

I would think he could do it in an hour or hour and half.

Probably somewhere between $100-$200

Yeah, not a big job. I could probably do it myself but I don’t like messing with electricity if I don’t have to.
