How much to change out a kitchen island?

The house we purchased came with a “U Shaped” island with 2 levels like a bar top. It has the sink and dishwasher built in, as well as pull out cabinet for trash. Theres limited space on both sides of the sink, and the kitchen is lacking counter space for food prep and other stuff. We have enough room for a massive rectangular, single level island. (Like possibly 5 ft x 8 ft or something like that)
How much would this reasonably cost, as we would also need granite to cover it, as well as the change in plumbing and electrical and additional cabinetry

probably not enough information to say. Call Assured in Baton Rouge and they can help you plan it out and recommend contractors to do it. My uneducated guess is about 10K because of granite and basically renovating the biggest part of your kitchen

Fair enough. I just wanted a roundabout number so we can start budgeting for it but have no idea where to even start

all I can say is to draw it up and get some quotes. We added a 4x6 island and it’s awesome to have all that extra counter space and drawer storage. It was part of a bigger job so I’ve no idea what it cost by itself
however what you can do is try your best to keep all drain (sink, DW) locations in the same place to keep plumbing to a minimum

Yes we were gonna keep it to a minimum for plumbing changeout and have it in the vicinity. My biggest concern is if we can match the granite as the house was built in like 2011

if you are in BR go over to Menzie stone and bring either a sample or a picture of the granite you have. I wouldn’t be scared of a different counter on the island though, something that accents what you have could be nice
BTW it sounds like you will need
cabinet shop
painter
countertop fab and install
plumber
electrician
if you are able to communicate what you want to the cabinet shop, his drawings should be sufficient to get prices from everyone else

And if the new cabinetry doesn't have the same footprint, probably a flooring guy depending on what they have for a floor now.
