I have a rectangular shaped yard and cut with a ZT mower. I noticed a tire pattern emerging last year and have tried to vary it up but it’s still there. I have 48” deck and regret not going with a larger size. Any tips on evening it out?

Tire pressure? I have a 54" deck and cut right at 1 and 1/2 acre yard (st aug) had the same problem, found out it was tire pressure off by one lb on one of the back tires. That is all I got.

Not much you can do but vary the pattern you cut your lawn. I alternate with three different patterns, but still see some tracking.....it's almost unavoidable with a heavy ZTR.

Push mow is your only option.

I made the switch. Takes me an extra 30 minutes but I've got no ruts at all now cutting 3 directions with a push mower.

Putting a heavy machine on a lawn will rut it. Either mow two/three different directions and/or offset wheel spacing from week to week.

Otherwise get a walk behind or push mower.

yes it can, softer tires rut less as they spread the weight out a little more but you are talking tires with only 15 lbs of air on average so reducing that to 10 lbs will reduce the impressions left behind

the issue is the weight on those tires so not a whole lot can be done about it but to buy a lighter lawn mower

If you cut your grass with the ground wet you will create slight ruts. Why do you think farmers get pissed when you drive on their wet headlands.

Get a lawn sweeper. Brushes that shite right out. And your yard will look fantastic. You will lose nitrogen due to gathering the clippings, so take that into account when fertilizing.

You may want to consider going back to a riding mower. The old school riding lawnmowers were lighter than ZTR’s and the weight distribution was better. Wider tires and/or lower weight=lower ground pressure= less damage to your turf.
