Anyone have any insight to a decent home security system you don't have to pay monthly for? We bought one off of amazon and hooked it up. The cameras were great, video was great, but the mobile app for it was horrible. It never could connect and was very frustrating. We returned it and got the blink system. It works better but it is super delayed and the connectivity is sketchy.

Looks like we may have to bite the bullet and get one we pay monthly for with a decent app.

any insight would be appreciated

We have a Reolink closed loop camera system, look into them. Looking into getting a monitored alarm system at the moment. Locally we have RTC which will probably get my business.

Crosspost to the tech board.

People are really high on the Ring stuff and it seems really simple and works great.

Doesn't work for my situation where there is lots of traffic around the area I am concerned about monitoring.

I have the ring alarm system. It's a decent system. If you are a costco member, they put it on sale pretty regularly for $179 (base station, keypad, extender, motion detector, and 6 door/window sensors). I bought additional sensors to cover other windows in my house. You don't have to get the monitoring, but it's only $10/month or $100/year. And if you have the monitoring (Ring Protect), you get cloud storage for Ring Cameras along with it.

I have Frontpoint. It's been good, but you do have to pay a monitor fee.
Much cheaper than the professional install like ADT and Vivint

My blink works well. Is your inside unit located in a good spot re:your router.

Every once in a while, i get a delay on the app but have never had connectivity issues with blink.

Batteries run out much faster than 2 years as the description claims, but thats my only gripe.
