Home project. Making a two story foyer one story.

So we are looking at possibly looking into turning our two story foyer into a one story.
Our foyer opening is 6x10. Upstairs currently has a 6 foot wide opening that looks down.
We would like to add essentially a 6x10 flooring up there. And make a little nook.
Any idea at all about what that project cost would be? Not the finishing off and such. But the cost of getting a contractor out and doing the structural part of the project?
We are in the very intro stages of even considering it just curious if anyone had any insight.

Things like current ceiling texture type, wall design, flooring type, etc are going to play a role in the cost. If the first floor ceiling is popcorn and a large continuous ceiling, then you are going to need to scrape and reblow a large portion of the ceiling, depending on the walls of the upstairs and downstairs, there could be a lot of wall painting. The flooring type on the second floor is going to determine how much flooring needs to be replaced, etc

From what I've heard (because I've asked the same thing), the cost is pretty exorbitant for what little you'll gain in square footage.
