Hole developed next to slab foundation

Not sure where the hole came from - it could be a critter - we have rabbits and armadillos in the neighborhood - but I don’t see dirt next to the hole to evidence a critter.
The hole is about 2 feet wide along the slab and about 8 inches wide from the slab into the yard. It’s about 2 feet deep and seems to be deepest at an angle - so not straight down. The hole does not go below the slab
At any rate, is this a fill the hole up with sand/dirt - or do I need to reach out to foundation experts.
ETA- I put something over the hole to test it if an animal was using it. The “cover” hasn’t moved and the hole doesn’t appear to have changed over the course of a couple of weeks
Thanks for the help

Anyone been boring in your neighborhood. Fiber optic company nicked my sewer line and caused a big washout under my driveway. They were on the hook for repair costs.

Not that I’m aware of. House is about 9 years old - spot this is occurring isn’t in spot that gets a ton of runoff from the roof or anything like that

I’d fill the hole up and don’t worry about it. Just keep an eye on it to see if it doesn’t develop again.

I would investigate with a posthole digger to see if you hit water or maybe the remnants of a tree root. That seems like a large hole to just show up
