I’ve done option 2. They just pop the Masonite off and then hand the hardy board below it. Of course it would be the best to do all Gary board but they quoted me $20k to do my whole house. The only Masonite that had issues were the bottom 6 feet (splash zone) and it cost me $2k. Once you paint it, you really can’t tell

If you can’t demo siding off your own dang house you should not be a parent or driving a car on public streets
