I’m looking for a good ground cover plant. Something that grows to about 6-8” and requires little maintenance other than occasional trimming. Wife would like something that blooms, but that doesn’t matter to me. Since our grass struggles to grow under the oaks, this would be a filler. We have had cast irons in the past. Looking for other options. Thanks!

Small flowers, but grows well under oaks: Asiatic jasmine, ardisia japonica. Both respond well to a trimming a couple times a year. If you think of the groundcover beneath LSU's oaks, that's asiatic jasmine.

LSU Ag Groundcover Info

Can't go wrong with pretty much any of the shade loving groundcovers on this website.

There is literally no plant that requires zero maintenance if you want them to look good. Typical pruning and cleanup should take care of most of the work.

Japanese ardisia is great for under oaks and it's not as common as liriope and cast iron. It doesn't flower but has red berries for winter interest.

Thanks for the link. Clegg’s the best place to get in the BR area?

Ajuga is care free and likes moist soil. Had some for 35 yrs and no upkeep except pulling out a few to transplant here and there. Have liriope, monkey grass, and artemisia (invasive), but like ajuga best. Never gets yellow like other ground covers.

Asian jasmine..I grew this in an area that would get sun all day. Once it catches on it grows fast...real fast.
